So... I’m Writing a Book
It’s not a cookbook (yet), but it’s about the systems, the people that keep us fed and how we protect them.
I didn’t plan to write a book. (Well, at least not for another couple of years.)
Honestly, I wasn’t even sure I could. (My 8th-grade English teacher told me I would never become an author…jokes on her! HA!)
But here we are, and apparently, I’m doing this thing. Cheers!
Last week, I sat down with my editorial team at Wiley and introduced myself as…an author. That’s still sinking in.
The book is called “Securing What Feeds Us: Cybersecurity in Food and Agriculture” (working title, but it’s sticking so far), and it’ll be out in Autumn 2026.
It’s not a cookbook, although that's on my radar for the Bites and Bytes Podcast crowd; however, this one is something a little different.
It’s about the systems that make it possible to grow, produce, and move our food.
It’s about the humans doing that work, and the technology that can either support them or sabotage everything if it goes sideways.
I’m writing it because people keep asking me, “Why would anyone hack a farm?”
Because our food systems are fragile, and most folks have no idea.
Because if we’re serious about food security, we have to start talking about digital & cyber-physical security too.
This space (hi, welcome to Substack) is where I’ll be sharing the behind-the-scenes:
What I’m learning, what I’m unlearning, the doubts, the deadlines, the weirdly specific snacks that get me through writing days. You’ll hear it here first, before the press releases and LinkedIn posts.
If you’d like to get the occasional update or sneak peek, you can sign up for official book stuff here: 📬 Sign up here
But mostly, thank you for being here.
Thanks for caring about food, tech, and all the invisible threads in between.
We’re doing this!
Stay safe, stay curious,
Kristin King
